Challenge:

  • Conversion of tanker to FSO

  • Use of existing mating ring

  • Thickness measurements show reduced thickness

  • Higher loads than initially designed for

  • DNV GL contracted to evaluate existing design

Solution - Review, refine and update:

  • Load calculations and combinations

  • Load application

  • Rule requirements – design fatigue factors and acceptance criteria

  • Finite element modelling, element type, transition and eccentricities

  • Boundary conditions

  • Non-linear material behaviour and force redistribution

Task:

  • Review and update design basis for the platform

Modify design to optimize:

  • Heading stability in waves and current

  • Motion behaviour with respect to wind turbine performance

  • Global strength

  • Arrangement and stability

  • Mooring

  • Weight and cost

  • Constructability

Cefront has assisted with hydrodynamic models and structural analysis for several fish farm concepts.

  • Spread or turret moored – disconnectable for service & maintenance.

  • Closed sides reduces exposure to Lepeophtheirus salmonis (salmon louse) and escape of fish.

  • Equipment for good working environment designed into the solutions, cranes, handling and accommodation quarters.

The Havfarm project:

  • Mooring Analysis in cooperation with Seasystems

  • Turret / mooring system design and analysis

The Aquatraz project:

  • Technical assistance

  • Structural design, hydrodynamic loads and responses

  • Model test specification and follow up
